IRHA Welcomes Breen’s Support for Road Tax Change – 2nd of December 2015

December 02, 2015

At a recent IRHA event, the association acknowledged the important contribution Dail deputies collectively made to bringing about the change in commercial vehicle road tax in the recent government budget.

Particular reference was made to Pat Breen TD of Co Clare, in attendance and who was very supportive of the plight of the association given the distorting effect the road tax mechanism was having on the growth of the sector.

Commenting on the subject matter Deputy Breen stated that “the current operating costs for haulage operators in the region were unsustainable and an urgent overhaul was needed to allow indigenous haulage companies to compete and ultimately grow their business. I feel with the very significant result that the IRHA achieved in the recent government budget, it will create a renewed sense of enthusiasm and ultimately commitment to a sector that is vital to our overall economic prosperity. I am very pleased to have been part of this positive result.”

President of the association Ms Verona Murphy stated; “The support of our local representatives in achieving our success in the government budget was invaluable and therefore a landmark day for the haulage sector in Ireland. In particular, the on-going efforts of Deputy Breen in Co Clare proved to be a very valuable contribution to the process and we thank the Deputy for his unwavering support”.
